Local Eras of past time

Can anyone guess where this is located? Jamie I thought of you and how you like local photos.
Two very different time frames here. I know the pictures aren't that great. I just thought these pictures would make some of you think. I will not be posting after today for a while. We are leaving early A.M. to go to the Keys. Me, Don, Jessica & MY DAD! We convinced him to go.
He loves to fish so it wasn't very hard. The hard part is him leaving MoM. Janet is going to help out and Ms. Earnestine her caregiver. About the posting Miles wants me to leave my lap top for him so he can surf the web for skate boards ETC.... Yes you guessed it. Miles could not go. He is so disappointed. Maybe next year!

Ginny

I forgot the most important part @ Ginny. I named her Ginny because MeMaw's name was
Pauline Virginia so I thought I'll name her Ginny. I don't know how I left that out. Now you all
know the story of Ginny. Stay tuned for more stories.

Ginny

Ginny

As promised here is Ginny. This is her story. Two years ago she came up to our house as a tiny little kitten. It was Memorial Day week-end. Miles & a couple of his friends from school were home. They were shooting the gun @ targets in the woods. Ginny came walking right up to them. I got home from work and there was a little kitten sitting on the steps. Well here is my theory about everything. MeMaw died in March the same year. I said I felt like Ginny was an angel sent to comfort me. I missed MeMaw so much. In these pictures she was stalking a bird. Lucky for the bird it was smart & took off. This is one of her favorite spots to hang out. I wonder why?

Natures Beauty

Just so you know I can grow some plants. These are in my yard. Does anyone know what the flower in the last picture is? Nancy Shouse the famous grower of all things do you know?
It grows on a tree. I think it is some sort of Hibiscus. Nancy Smith planted all of these plants years ago.
I know I,m way behind in my posts. Due to Dr. appointments for Dad & Janet & many other circumstances. But just wait to see all that I have ready for my future posts.
I'm sending out lots of love & prayers today for my girl Catherine.

Correction Re: Mixon Restaurant

I asked my Dad about the building I thought was the old restaurant. He said they tore the
restaurant down. It was next to that building. He said if he remembers correctly the building shown was a service station with a gas pump. He thinks Harold Peeples had it built there.
So sorry for the incorrect information about the building.

Old Oak & Mixon Restaurant

This is probally one of my favorite trees. It is so intriguing to me. I invision all kinds of interesting things happening there. Confederate soldiers sittiing underneath it. Indians living around it. Don said that General Lee's horse Traveler was delivered by train in the general area. As you guessed the tree is in Pocotaligo. Also when I was a little girl we would sometimes
go to eat at the Mixon restaurant. I remember it was so small inside. My PaPa would take us after church. Billy & Tommy Mixon's parents owned it. I pass this going to the bank in Yemassee all the time. I always think how beautiful the tree is. Since my blogging career has started I now think of things in a whole different light. Thank you sister bloggers for introducing me to your world of blogging. I love it!

Food again

O.K. you people are going to think all I do is eat. Well you are right! Two chefs around the house what else do you do? Jessica called and said I'm cooking dinner. She cooked shrimp, Scallops and grits. The dessert was Peach crisp. As always DELICIOUS! The pictures speak for themselves.

bauteaux restaurant

The restaurant moved to Port Royal on Parris Avenue. All the way to end of the road behind the Town Hall. It was originally the old custom house years ago. Really a really cool place.

bateaux Restaurant

Well everyone looks like I'm the last blogger of the day. Last night Don, Jessica, Janet & I went to check out the bateaux restaurant. Excellent food & atmosphere. I'm not just saying that because OUR FAVORITE SON is a chef there it is very good. I won't tell you what we all had to eat. My appetizer was the Shrimp fritters, delicious! My salad was called the Barefoot Heirloom
something. It was tomatoes and a reduced basil sauce with a little cheese GOOD. My entre' was
a veal chop w/ like a tomatoe pesto sauce and plantation rice. My son grilled the veal. Scrumptious. Then dessert coffee & Cocoa buttermilk cake OH YES! with chocolate syrup on the side & whipped cream on the cake. O.K. is anybody drooling yet? Go check it out for yourself.
Ask for upstairs when you make reservations. It is an open kitchen really cool! You would see Miles. It's nice casual dress. bateaux's has a reputation of being a little stuffy/snooty I guess
they are trying to change the image.

Fig Tree

Don & I planted a fig tree. I supervised. Hey someone has to give orders! PaPa gave it to us. He can root anything. He has the greenest thumb I have ever seen. I love to just walk around his yard with him and listen to him tell about each plant. Believe me he knows what year he got it where he got it and who gave it to him.
A lot of his plants and flowers he & MeMaw would see beside the road on their many trips
to the mountains or Florida. They would dig something up bring it home & root it. And amazingly enough it would grow. Unlike my atempts of trying to root something.
Some of you know PaPa he is almost 87 years old. He is Don's Dad. Please grow little tree.
I love fig preserves.

Grand Old Pecan Tree

Some of you may recognize this tree. It is in front of my office. I remember as a little girl I always loved this tree. It really is a very large Pecan tree. A lot of years of growth.

Hummer

Caught this little guy at snack time!

Memaw and Papa's Rose

Sunday we visited with Papa in Hampton for Father's day. This rose was so pretty that I decided to snap it and add it to my blog. This was taken on the front porch.

Great Chef's

These are my personal chef's. Jessica is Miles girlfriend. She is so sweet! They prepared Rutabaga with potatoes, onions, bacon and garlic. Leeks with a cheese and pancetta topping. Veal, leg of lamb and crab cakes. We were so full we didn't eat Jessica's dessert. She said it would keep. I'm not

sure exactly what the dessert is. I know she cut up grapples ( apples that taste like grapes)

she made a caramel sauce and I'm not sure of the rest because she didn't finish it. To be continued. The meal was great! Jessica cleaned as she cooked. As for Miles, well typical when

he cooks I get clean up duty! I'm really not understanding how that works. Due to the simple fact that when I cook I also get clean up Duty! Go Figure! Gotta love em!!

MeMaw's Blueberry Cake

The story about the cake is my Mother-in-law passed away March 2005. She made the best Blueberry cake EVER! She was known all around Hampton County and other areas for her
Famous cake. I could not bring myself to try to make one after she died. We were having
a dinner at church last October and I decided
to try and make a cake. While I was mixing the cake I said Lord please let this cake be as good as MeMaw's and let her be proud of me. As you can see she was! The odds of something like this happening is quite rare. There are four cups of Blueberries in this cake. So you be the judge.
